Or in the hands of one man, Jadav Payeng from Assam, India. Over 30 years ago he started planting a forest, one tree at a time. To begin with he was part of a governmental project to plant 200 hectars which took 5 years. After the project was done, he stayed on, looking after the forest and continuing to plant more trees. The forest now covers an area of 550 hectars! This forest has become a safe haven for many different species such as Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceros and elephants.

This guy rocks!
